Music
I play a lot of guitar, and every once in a while I get the idea into my head that I should make a song. Usually I don’t have the patience to finish them, but sometimes I do. I can’t promise you that they are of any quality, but here are links to songs I have recorded. Sometimes I use FruityLoops to make a simple drum beat in the background. Usually I just record a couple layers using Audacity and call it a day.
One day, I hope to play as well as Joe Satriani. I think if I practice enough, that day will come. I’m not sure if I’ll have the time to do that during grad school, though.
Easter Medley. This is probably my best song. I made it on easter, and continued with my habit of naming songs after the day they were written, largely because I didn’t know what else to name them.
For Sharon. Every once and I while I feel like playing for someone online. I recorded this for my friend sharon. It’s not really a song, so much as me screwing around at first, and then attempting to play pieces of Joe Satriani songs.
Hobo Shuffle. I think I had recently read ‘The Areas of My Expertise’ before I wrote this song. It’s kinda happy. I like it.
Los Alamos. I wrote this after getting an offer to go work at Los Alamos for summer 2006. I turned it down because I had already made place to take part in an REU at Harvey Mudd college that summer. I made the right choice. It was my second attempt to write more of a ‘rock’ sounding song. It’s OK, I guess. The begining’s a little long, but I like the ending.
Mauled by Bears. When I got my first accoustic guitar, I couldn’t stop playing it. This is not really a song, just a recording of me just having fun with it. I need to get better rhythm.
Saturday Night. My first attempt at a more rock-like sound.
Song. I think I didn’t put a title on this because I had planned to finish it and never got around to it. I like what I’ve got so far, though…
Trapezoidation Station 9. Don’t ask about the title. This is the first time I actually planned out a solo instead of improvising,
Wednesday Morning. The first song I ever recorded. It has a softer, more accoustic sound. I still like it.
